Before managers are sent abroad on long-term assignment, most are tested for their resilience in the face of potential culture shock, and guided on how to deal with the foreign customs and practices they will meet. Surprisingly few are provided with such defences when being recruited to a new company at home, despite the fact that there are substantially more of such transfers.
The consequences of the personal values and beliefs of a recruit being at total odds with those represented by the culture of the new employer can be dire. Teams have cultures, too, and there are times when a new team-leader’s style conflicts that of the team to the extent that its performance fails. Where many teams from different units have to work together, finding for them the culture of collaboration is vital.
The concepts and language that Docsa uses are easy to understand, and enable us to surface deep cultural persuasions without rancour. Thus making a reconciliation to such conflicts in ‘the ways we do things around here’ possible.
